Building blocks for effective professional development 2.0

Designing en evaluating professional development of lecturers

Updated version: building blocks for effective professional development 2.0

In August 2020, the publication ‘Building blocks for effective professional development – Literature review’ was presented. In order to support higher education in designing effective professionalisation, there was a need for greater insight into ‘what works’ in practice: the building blocks for effective professional development of lecturers.

Based on both a review of (practice-based) literature and discussions with experts, the Facilitating professional development for lecturerszone, together with iXperium, developed an initial model for the professional development of lecturers. This model includes the building blocks for effective professional development aimed at educational innovation with ICT in higher education. Building on this study, a follow-up study was conducted to increase the model’s practical usefulness. Based on the results, the zone has updated the model and the building blocks in a version 2.0.
