Cookies Acceleration plan

Our website places cookies on your computer – after your permission. Cookies allow the site to function properly and provide us with information that we can use to improve your user experience. Third parties can also place cookies through our website. In this cookie statement you can read which cookies we place.

About cookies

We use cookies on our website: small files that are sent by an internet server and that are stored on your computer. Cookies are also placed via third parties that we have engaged.

Permission for placing cookies and deleting cookies

When you visit our website for the first time, at the bottom of the window you will see the message “The Acceleration Plan places functional cookies to make this website work properly. We also place analytical cookies to improve the website. The data is made anonymous if possible.” We place these cookies without your explicit permission.

In addition, we ask for your permission to place cookies from third parties. Embedded content (such as YouTube videos) may contain third-party cookies. By clicking “Accept”, you consent to the placing of third-party cookies.

You can remove the cookies again via your browser settings. There you can also set which type of cookies are placed on your computer. Most cookies have an expiration date. This means that they expire automatically after a certain period and no longer record any data about your website visit. You can also choose to delete the cookies manually via your browser settings.

Agreements with third parties about cookies

We have made agreements with third parties who place cookies about the use of cookies and applications. However, SURF does not have full control over what the providers of these applications do with the cookies when they read them. In the privacy statements of these parties you can read more about these applications and how they handle cookies (note: these can change regularly).

Types of cookies on

Functional cookies

Our website uses a number of functional cookies, which ensure that the website functions correctly:

  • cookieconsent_status: cookieconsent_status: necessary to save what your cookie preference is and is valid for 12 months

Analytical and tracking cookies

The Acceleration Plan uses the open source web statistics package Matomo to keep track of statistics. This way we can see how visitors use our website and we get information that we can use to improve the website.

By using Matomo, we process the data in-house and do not provide it to third parties. The collected data is stored in an encrypted environment in the Netherlands. In addition, Matomo is set up so that the IP address of the website visitor is automatically anonymized: the last 9 digits of the IP address are not saved or displayed. If your browser is set to not be tracked, Matomo will not collect any data from your visit. The Acceleration Plan does not use cookies to identify visitors, but only to improve the website.

The Acceleration Plan places the following Matomo cookies on your computer:

  • _pk_ref: this cookie determines from which website you have visited the SURF website and is valid for 6 months.
  • _pk_cvar: this optional cookie is set if, for example, you have participated in a survey. That survey is not offered twice. This cookie is valid for 2 years.
  • _pk_id: this cookie determines whether you are a new or a returning visitor. This cookie is valid for 2 years.
  • _pk_ses: this cookie determines which pages you have visited on This cookie is only valid during the relevant visit to our website.
